Fort Gordon, home of the U.S. Army Signal center, covers 56,000 acres in eastern Georgia. It is located about 8 miles SW of Augusta, GA, however, it will take 30-40 minutes to reach race headquarters from downtown Augusta, so please plan accordingly.

EVERY PERSON IN EVERY VEHICLE MUST HAVE A PICTURE ID TO ENTER THE FORT. THE CAR MUST ALSO HAVE REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Take I-20 East from Atlanta or I-20 West from Columbia. Exit #196: I-520 Bobby Jones Expressway Eastbound. Exit & Turn Right: Hwy 78 Gordon Hwy (about 3 miles).
  • Follow Gordon Hwy and turn left into Gate 1.
  • Show PICTURE ID, CURRENT REGISTRATION, and INSURANCE CARD to the security guards and tell them you are with the MedWAR race. You may be pulled to the side to open your hood, trunk, & glove box. Don't worry, it's normal, but you should budget extra time for it.
  • Once you get inside the fort , go straight 3.3 miles on Chamberlein Road through the main area of the fort and past the recycling center.
  • Take a Left onto 15th St at the stop sign. Go through the next stop sign and past the Bingo Palace (on the left).
  • After 1.5 miles, the road will come to a T (you will see a small covered structure straight ahead). Go Right on 111th and 0.2 miles later the road will merge (slightly right) with North Range Road.
  • Follow Range Rd for about 5 miles. You will pass through another security checkpoint which may or may not be open.
  • About 2 miles after the checkpoint, the road will fork with the Range Control building in the middle. Go Right on Gibson Road for 0.5 miles.
  • Turn left onto Sawmill Rd, a dirt road with a green sign.  There will also be a MedWAR sign on the road.  If you reach Leitner Lake down the hill, you have gone too far.
  • Continue on the dirt road for approximately 0.5 miles and take a left at the sign to reach the NBC Chamber and Clearing House.

Note to those who have been to our race before: The campsite and race start/finish have moved!

Camping

Camping is included in your registration fee at the race site in Fort Gordon. There are plenty of sites on a first-come basis. The weather in Georgia in April is variable in temperature and often wet. Rain covers for tents are a must. Well-behaved pets and children are welcome in camp. There are port-a-potties nearby but no other facilities. Fires and campstoves allowed. However, there is NOT a place to get food or water. Please remember to BRING FOOD AND WATER with you for Friday night and Saturday morning. Dinner following the race is provided.

Other Accomodations

If you perfer a hotel room, there are numerous hotels in Augusta (about a 20 minute drive from Race Headquarters). Those located on Gordon Highway are the closest.
